LAUNDROMATS
It is boom time for Indian Tourism and Hospitality sector. Driven by a surge in business traveler arrivals and a soaring interest in the country, India has emerged as a leading tourist destination. The world’s leading travel and tourism journal, “Conde Nast Traveler”, ranked India amongst top 4 preferred holiday destinations in the world.
The importance of tourism for the Indian economy is evident from the fact that it contributed to 5.9 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product and provided employment to 41.8 million people. Significantly, the 100 per cent foreign direct investment regime in tourism will help in boost up the country's tourism. With the country hosting the 2010 Commonwealth Games, this share will definitely increase.
To endow with memorable stay enjoying world class service, especially at the time of common wealth games, is the major aim of the industry. And with this aim of providing comfortable home-stay facilities of standardized world class services to the tourist, and to supplement the availability of accommodation in the metro and other tourist destinations, Ministry of Tourism will decide to classify fully operational rooms of home-stay facilities as “Incredible India Bed and Breakfast (B & B) Establishments”. The basic idea is to provide a clean and affordable place for foreigners and domestic tourists. But with food and accommodation every visitor having the necessity of clean clothes. And in the era of demanding work and crunchy time, Laundromats (a self-service laundry where coin-operated washing machines are available to individual customers) can be a great boom for the tourism as well as tourists. As self check-in facility introduced by GINGER HOTEL, in the same manner Laundromats can be the next example of revolutionized service, used by the upcoming guest.
It all started with the first wringer washer, built in 1907. During the Depression, enterprising businesspeople started using wringer washers to operate public laundries. These businesses were originally drop-off services, where customers left their laundry to have someone wash it for them. The first launderette/laundromats was opened on 9th May 1949 in Queensway, London. Launderettes in the main are fully automated coin operated and generally unmanned. In the 1960s, however, the industry experienced resurgence. Smart new investors realized they could do better than run-down, unattended stores and started creating spiffy new businesses. And for that now many owners are serving food, renting mailboxes and offering free internet access. These additional services demand little increase in overhead because the rent is already paid for. Many laundry owners are providing a coffee shop, dry cleaning, children’s play area and some even offer spa services.
SCOPE IN INDIA It will not only be lucrative for the owners, but also for the tourists and local resident especially under B @ B Establishment. Highly populated areas will offer the highest demand for coin operated laundromats. Renters use coin operated laundromats the most. The number of renters is projected to be the fastest growing segment of the population and offers the greatest opportunity for growth. Another trend, the increasing number of two income households in the workforce, will provide additional opportunities for laundromats. Time starved couples and working mothers are looking for ways to conserve their most precious resource, time. Doing eight loads of laundry at home can consume over ten hours per week. In a laundromat, the task can be done in one hour. By utilizing the wash-dry and fold service for laundry or by doing laundry all at once, they save themselves substantial time. In fact, a recent survey by the Coin Laundry Association indicates that 68% of stores surveyed now offer wash-dry-fold service. It is a service having cheaper rate than hotel laundry facilities so it can be profitable for the tourist also.A typical self service laundrette saves a considerable amount of water compared to washing at home the large-capacity washers wash multiple loads of laundry at a fraction of the water consumption. In an age of water shortages and drought, self service launderettes are a significant way to conserve water. Many households find that by using their local launderette it saves the valuable space in their home as well as time and money. If we look for a business that will keep the cash flowing no matter what the rest of the economy is doing. Owning a coin laundry will be a great part-time career or an option for someone who is retired and looking for a low risk investment opportunity. Clean clothes are a necessity, not a luxury, so people are going to use Laundromats no matter how the stock market is performing, and with the expansion of service industry in India, Laundromats will become the necessity of coming era.
The market is constantly expanding
It’s an all cash business It’s recession proof
There is no outside selling required
The coin laundry business is fairly recession proof and offers long term cash flow. People need to have clean clothes summer, fall, winter and spring. Demand within a coin laundry is relatively consistent.
Unlike many other businesses, laundries are a cash business. They generally do not have accounts receivable, so owners aren’t waiting on others to pay their bills. Customers prepay for services and provide the labor. In essence, customers are paying you to rent your machines and use them. Everyone needs clean clothes. As one answer to this dilemma, the coin laundry or laundromat was born. Coin laundries have been in existence for approximately 60 years in the United States. Laundromats enable renters, college students, travelers and families that don’t own their own laundry equipment a place to do their laundry themselves. Today there are 25,000 to 30,000 laundromats operating in the United States for a total of nearly five billion dollars in annual revenue. Typically a coin laundry is not sold as a franchise but is owned and operated as a small business. Saving you money in the short and long term and allowing you control over your destiny.
The traditional coin laundry concept continues to be expanded and redefined. Now stores not only offer self service but may provide wash–dry and fold service where an attendant does your laundry for you. Laundry owners in different countries have realized that they can maximize their profits by providing customers with access to multiple services. The newer laundries have snack bars, a place to leave off and pick up dry cleaning, and video games. Some of them don’t even use coins. Instead, customers use swipe cards that subtract the cost of the wash or dry, much like a phone card or debit card. Many laundry owners also employ attendants to keep an eye on the store and help customers use the equipment.
